Reps ‘ll support Nigeria’s advancement in science, technology, innovation – Ukodhiko

MEMBER representing Isoko North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. (Engr.) Jonathan Ukodhiko, has assured of the 10th House of Representatives’ support at efforts aimed in advancing science, technology and innovation in Nigeria.

Rep. Ukodhiko gave the assurance in a goodwill message on Monday at the opening ceremony of the Science, Technology, and Innovation Expo 2024 held at the Eagles’ Square in Abuja.

Representing the Speaker of House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abass, Ukodhiko said, the theme of the Exposition, “STI: Solution to National Economic Challenges”, was insightful as it captured the critical but transitional juncture at which the nation stands presently.

According to the Isoko federal lawmaker, “at a time when the world is rapidly evolving, driven by unprecedented advancements in science, technology, and innovation, Nigeria is poised to take a leading role in charting a path towards sustainable, inclusive growth and development.

“This Expo serves as a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change, highlighting the potentials within our great nation to overcome not just the economic but also security challenges through innovation and ingenuity.

“This is a unique forum for knowledge sharing, for glinting inspiration, and forging partnerships that will drive the giant of Africa forward in the years to come.”

Ukodhiko, who is the Deputy chairman, House Committee on Science and Technology, said, the Expo would afford the nation’s scientists, engineers, inventors, and innovators the opportunity of showcasing their incredible talents and expertise.

Saying it would also “foster meaningful interactions that promote the commercialization of groundbreaking Nigerian research; to support the growth of our indigenous manufacturing sector through STI; and to encourage robust collaboration among our research institutions.

“These goals are not just commendable; they are essential steps towards realizing the vision laid out in the National Science, Technology, and Innovation Roadmap 2030 and Presidential Executive Order No. 5.

“Let me assure all STI stakeholders that the House of Representatives will give its legislative nod to every measure that will advance and make the nation’s STI viable.

On this note, I urge all stakeholders to work closely with the legislative Committees with bias on STI particularly the House Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation in unlocking the powers of 10th National Assembly in driving the nation’s STI.” Ukodhiko added.

The Expo was graced by Nigeria’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Godfrey Nnaji among others.
